It's rained off and on all day. But actually, that's cool, because I was inside all day and I always have my umbrella with me because I am superprepared girl.
It was my first day at work, and very, very low key. Not a lot of visitors, the ones we did have were classmates (there's a paper due on Tuesday and it's on the Douglass House, so...). I got to hang out with my classmate and coworker Elizabeth, who, it turns out is a huge sci-fi geek. I mean, someone who knows about fanfiction and slash and uses the word "fangirl" in sentences and roleplays Star Trek. So we talked about Serenity and Harry Potter and the lack of married couples in sci-fi shows. We're probably going to go see Goblet of Fire together when it comes out. Hooray for new friends!
Also, I had to share the sheer dorkiness of this moment, because apparently I have no shame:
copies of Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass are only $1 (they are on amazon too) and we're supposed to read it for class, so I was going to buy it (I'll buy it tomorrow), and I got all excited at the thought of having a new book, not for the book part, but because it meant I had something to add to LibraryThing. There is definitely something wrong with me. Although, I did also get excited by the other historic titles that Dover publishes, like A Vindication of the Rights of Woman by Mary Wollstonecraft and The Subjection of Women by John Stuart Mill. Which doesn't really downplay the "ok, she's odd" aspect, but still.

I definitely was at the Herrick where-in-heaven-did-they-find-these-books book sale yesterday ("Caesar's Women," "Environmental Effects and Conservation Governance," not to mention the trashy romances) and was seriously debating buying a book or two just for the sheer pleasure of being able to catalogue it. Maybe they'll set up a support group for us soon--Bibliophiles Anonymous or some such. - d'Artagnan

Well, it sounds better than "Library-Thingers Anonymous," at least.

Now that I actually read this entry, let me say a few things...

1) I wish I lived closer to you.
2) Nothing is wrong with your desires, if you ask me. The rest of the world just hasn't caught up yet.
3) i'd see goblet of fire with you too if i were in town.

Peace,
Gabe

If you ever happen to be in DC, you should let me know. I don't have a car, so I probably won't be down your way anytime soon, but if you came into the city I could show you the sites. I'm an excellent tour guide, if you're willing to walk.
And I love grover too. He's the best muppet.

How about that great poem, "Goblin Market"--also a Dover publication.
Perfect for this time of year, too.

ah, i'm lost in library thing and it's all your fault. can i admit right now that i have several pages in an old journal dedicated to all of the books i can remember reading? it started last summer when i realized i was reading books faster than i had during college and realized i was starting to forget some of the titles. and since i dont buy books, an actual library catalogue isn't that great. but a simple list of those i have read is perfect. it then grew into a list of all the titles I could remember reading. I still update it about every 2 months. so is it totally wrong to catalogue books in librarything that i've checked out of the library and read but not bought?
