So, today I went to work, which was good as usual. Then I came home and checked my email, had dinner, and then I went to the grocery store. Our church does this thing where they collect food for Thanksgiving and then distribute it. Collection is tomorrow, so I went to buy what was on the list:
2 cans of cranberry sauce; 2 boxes or bags of stuffing
mix; 6 potatoes, a bunch of carrots, one bag of
celery, 1 can or package of gravy, fresh squash for 6,
6 fresh oranges, 1 package of cookies or 1 box of
pudding mix.
Cranberry sauce, stuffing, potatoes, carrots, celery, gravy, pudding, oranges, all no problem (although I think I may have bought super huge potatoes, but that's ok, and I forgot the celery and had to go back). I am, however, not certain that I've ever actually eaten squash, and I know I've never bought it. So of course I have no idea how much is enough. They didn't have any whole butternut or acorn squashes, so that was a problem (they had something that was green on the outside and an orange color on the inside with pumpkin-like seeds- it was cut and wrapped in cellophane, but not labeled and I've no idea what it was- any help?). I couldn't find anyone in the store at first, and so I called Kristin, and then I called home but the parents were at Home Depot, so I went to the Customer Service desk. The girl wasn't sure and asked someone else, so I followed directions. I'm hoping that what I bought is right and enough, but I imagine that it's not really the end of the world if it's not- someone at church can either have it or use it for something church related, and I don't know that someone's going to be horribly upset that they didn't get squash.
The best part is that most of the stuff was either already reasonably priced or on sale, so I only spent $21, which is about what I might spend on myself for a week, less even, and since I don't need groceries since I'll be at home, it's all good. And I don't think I bought anything that was storebrand. There's nothing wrong with buying store brand, I do it for myself all the time, but I really wanted to make sure that what I got was good and something I would eat (well, except for the squash!), so I was picky about the oranges and potatoes and everything.
Now I have to pack for next week and pick out my outfit for tomorrow (I get to sing again tomorrow, it's the 3rd Sunday of the month, hooray!).
