So, this was inspired by an icon I saw in another community.

I now live in Washington DC. The nation's capital. Where the President lives. No matter who he is (though the current one seems to prefer Texas). 90% of DC voted for Kerry in the last election. We're his neighbors, people. Doesn't it say something when the people who live where Bush lives think he's doing a bad job? Yeah, I know he doesn't run DC, but still. If you were dating a person, and everyone who lived in his/her building said that person was not someone you wanted to date, wouldn't you maybe think twice about it? If they all worked with that person and shopped in the same stores? And noticed that that person wasn't particularly interested in doing his/her part to keep the building in repair?

Which could lead me into a big rant about how DC really ought to be better taken care of, as it is the capital, and it kind of reflects poorly on the USA to have so many homeless people and such bad public schools in the same town as the federal gov't. But I'm hungry.

Personal experience:
Never date a boy whose neighbors dont' think well of him.

I think that this can be generalized to politics.

DC needs help.

It seems to me that the best thing which could be done for the residents of the District is for the Congress to cede the territory back to the state of Maryland. The residents of Washington could then run their own school system, local government could make its own budget, etc. Having to rely on Congress for everything is silly at best, destructively dysfunctional at worst.

P. S.: If I didn't mention it before, I've added you to my Friend-list. If after looking at my full journal you wish to reciprocate, cool. If not, I understand, no problem.

I'm flattered.
And I could always use more friends.
