No you can't get a man with a gun
Dec. 8th, 2004 08:30 pmRemind me when I'm done with finals to write an entry about the ideas about gender relations expressed in Annie Get Your Gun*. Frank Butler's kind of a stupid-head. And poor Annie, who's got an amazing talent, and has taken care of her family well enough by herself, and has some sense in her head, but she's ignorant, and absolutely smitten with Frank. And the men know this, and probably have no problem taking advantadge of that. Though I do think she teaches Frank a thing or two, and the other women in the show.
But then again, it's got "There's No Business Like Show Business" which is a song anyone who's ever been in a show can relate to. And "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better", with one of the best lines ever: "Can you bake a pie? No. Well neither can I". Oh, Irving Berlin, how I love you. (What's with me and a) writers and b) dead guys ?)
*It's on AMC at the moment
And, another good line: "I want to apologize for little Jake and the girls unhitching the caboose" "If only they hadn't done it on a hill."
