The Day of Evil

Well, that's what Dale calls it. I'm of mixed feelings. I think you shouldn't need a card store to remind you to tell people that you care, and I know how frustrating it is to be single when everything becomes about couples. I also know the stupid pressures the day puts on people in couples to buy things and make a big deal. And the conflation of a weird image of a Roman god and a Catholic saint's day is amusing (really, the story of Cupid and Psyche would be no where near as good if Cupid was a little cherubic thing).
But, for your amusement, I provide you with my ideal V-Day playlists. Including songs about long-distance love, unrequited love, and break-up songs, as well as mushy-gushy love songs. If you're curious to hear any of them, I'll gladly send you a file to preview, but I'll be out all day on Tuesday. This doesn't come any where close to being the full range of love songs I have available to me, they're just some of my favorites.
Mushy-Gushy songs for those in love
"As Long as You're Mine" Wicked
"I'd Give it All for You" Songs for a New World
"More" Frank Sinatra well, that's the one I love, but Harry Connick Jr. does a good one as well
"If I had $1,000,000" BareNaked Ladies
"I Get a Kick Out of You" Anything Goes Cole Porter rocks my socks. And there are any number of good versions of this, including one by the one and only Frank
"You're the Top" Anything Goes
"It's De-Lovely" Anything Goes I prefer the version by Robbie Williams off the De-Lovely soundtrack
"Stay" Sweet Honey in the Rock
"A Bushel and a Peck" Guys and Dolls This one's silly
"Wild Horses" The Sundays I know it's a Stones tune, but this is the version I like best
"Fever" Peggy Lee
"For Once in My Life" Stevie Wonder Sadly, I only have the Harry Connick, Jr. version
"God Only Knows" The Beach Boys I have it by Manhatten Transfer, but not the original
"Halleujah I Love Her So" Ray Charles
"If I Were a Bell" Guys and Dolls
"Irresistable You" Bobby Darin Your magic hands
"Let's Get it On" Marvin Gaye
"Under Your Spell" Once More With Feeling
"Come What May" Moulin Rouge
"Power of Two" Indigo Girls
Break Up
"I Wanna Be Around" Frank Sinatra My favorite "mean" break-up song
"I Wish You Love" Frank Sinatra My favorite break-up song: My breaking heart and I agree that you and I could never be, so with my best, my very best, I set you free
"There's a Fine, Fine Line" Avenue Q There's a fine, fine line between love, and a waste of your time
"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" Diana Ross and the Supremes Yes, it's a break-up song: "Just remember what I told you, the day I set you free"
"These Boots are Made for Walkin'" Nancy Sinatra and if you even think of comparing the Jessica Simpson version, I will walk on you with my boots
"I Will Survive" Donna Summer the classic
"I Quit" Hepburn Loving you is a job I don't need
"It Doesn't Matter" Alison Krauss and Union Station You've made up your mind to go, I won't beg you to stay
"Jackson" Johnny Cash and June Carter
"Fly" Moxy Fruvous
"Ghost" Indigo Girls
"Guess Things Happen that Way" Johnny Cash
"She Cries" Songs for a New World Always leave when a woman cries, never look in a woman's eyes, you get stuck with a high and rising fever. And then you can't leave her
Unrequited Love
"I'm Not That Girl" Wicked
"Cupid" Sam Cooke Cupid, draw back your bow and let that arrow go, straight to my lover's heart for me
"Just My Imagination" The Temptations
"Let it Be Me" Everly Brothers
"No No Raja" Moxy Fruvous I'm not sure if this is "break-up" or "unrequited", but I love it
"Rest in Peace" James Marsters Once More With Feeling If my heart could beat it would break my chest, but I can see you're unimpressed
"Some Day My Prince Will Come" Snow White
"You Don't Know Me" Ray Charles
"El Tango De Roxanne" Moulin Rouge
"To Make You Feel My Love" Billy Joel
"Nobody Makes a Pass at Me" Pins and Needles This one is more about being lonely than true unrequited love, but still
Long-Distance Love
"Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell
"Beyond the Sea" Bobby Darin
