Adventures in Studio Living
Jun. 17th, 2007 01:51 pmI got the keys Friday after work, and took some stuff up. While I had remembered to bring clean underwear for the next day and a change of clothes for that night, I neglected to bring towels. I had sheets for my bed though.
I discovered that the main living space doesn't have an overhead light, so I spent my first night in my new apartment sleeping in the closet. The closet is, in fact, large enough to fit a full-size mattress, and it has an overhead light. I wasn't ready to go to sleep right away, hence the need for the light. I also didn't sleep very well, because I didn't have a blanket. I wasn't cold, per se, I just wasn't cozy. I very much like to feel weight on my when I sleep, which is one of the reasons I love a cold winter's night for sleeping, and one of the reasons that I actually prefer layers of blankets to a down comforter (and why I'm crocheting what I hope will be a nice big quilt for my bed). Because all I had was the top sheet, I had a hard time getting snug in the bed, and I kept waking up.
Moving in to a completely unfurnished place is something I've never actually done before, and it makes you realize just how many little details make up a home. I do have (soy) milk in the fridge, and a box of cereal, and some plastic bowls, cups and cutlery. I do not have a microwave or any cooking implements. I also have sponges and some Simple Green and baking soda (but no vinegar). And toilet paper.
J calls the new pad "Evieland", which I love as a name. (And yes, he is allowed to call me Evie, and no, you're not, unless you've already been given permission to do so.)
Right now, Evieland does not have Internet access, but it will by this coming Friday. And slowly it will have furniture, and plants, and pictures of my friends and family. Invitations to the housewarming party on 7/7/07 will be forthcoming to those of you in the DC Metro Area, I just have to finish the invite list.
