Ok, so for the longest time I saw 2004 as the end of time. Graduation was May of '04, and after that, what? And then I got into grad school, and so time kept going.
Tonight, for the first time since 1918, on the night of a lunar eclipse, the Red Sox won the World Series. So if we wake up tomorrow and find the world is gone, I love you all. If it's still there, I suggest you keep your eyes and ears open. If you see flooding, earthquakes, frogs raining from the sky, or anything of that nature, or hear trumpets blowing or voices from the sky, let me know.

On the bright side, this might be good news for another hopeful from MA...

And, if the world does end, there's no more homework. And it won't matter whether or not any of my papers were any good.

Ok, time to sleep.

hmmm

So, this girl claims that the Secret Service came to her house, after she said something in her LJ about wishing that Bush would die (in the arms of a gay man surrounded by a sea of cocaine, or something like that). She wasn't serious, it was a humorous way of expressing her dislike of him. She wasn't advocating that anyone kill him, or planning on doing it herself. Someone reported her, and she got a nice pleasant visit, b/c threats against the president have to be investigated. My question is, how did they know where she lived? LJ doesn't record that, and yes, you can track someone down to the city level with an IP address, but can you find their house? Maybe the snitch knew, or the gov't has more sophisticated technology.
Commenters to her entry told stories of having been reprimanded and/or fired from their jobs because of their entries. How does someone you work with know you have a livejournal unless you tell them? Mine doesn't have my name in my username. None of my friends' do either. And seriously, how much do you need to dislike a coworker to seek out their livejournal and then report them for venting about work in it? I can vent to my friends, can't I. Yes, LJ is a public forum, and so strangers may read it, and that may affect business. And yes, using LJ at work (reading or writing) could be seen as a misuse of company property, which is something you can legitimately be punished for. But most people don't list the specific places where they work, only their friends know, so it's not defemation. And, again, unless I say something like "Barnes and Noble is crap, don't shop there, they kill puppies and eat them at company parties" (which, as far as I know, is not true, I enjoy B&N and books in general, and have never worked for them), I shouldn't be costing them business, and you can't accuse me of libel/slander if I say "I have to deal with stupid people all day, and so to keep from being rude to them, I shall vent my frustration here" or "I don't like coworker so and so b/c her perfume smells funny and she talks to much and interferes with my ability to get my work done."
Plus, how can you prove it's mine? Well, I suppose that my name is there, as well as my school, location, hometown and program of study. I like to think I'm unique, and not very many other people have the same exact life as me. But no where is my last name or phone number or address listed (these are bad things to put in a public place). I'm just interested in the legality of it. I suppose you could seize my computer and find the fact that I'm addicted to LJ by looking at where I've been and stuff, but... (I do clear my history, b/c I get sick of it trying to fill things in for me when I start typing web addresses, but I've seen enough Law and Order to know they can find things you didn't know were there)

[livejournal.com profile] eredien and I were talking on the phone. A snippet from our convesation:
context: we were talking about someone saying that she would be the most embarassing mother ever
Me: As long as you're not doing anything to hurt them.
Her: Well, I was just going to harvest them for Soylent Green.
Me: Well, that's ok as long as you anesthatize them first.

This resulted in lots of giggling.
